Rustboro City (cont.)
The normal trainers in the gym only have Geodude, and are fairly easy to beat.
The Rustboro Gym Leader is Roxanne. She has two Pokémon, Geodude (level 14) and
Nosepass (level 15). Her Geodude's pretty easy to beat, but Nosepass can be
trouble. Make sure you have plenty of potions in your bag, and your Pokémon are
powerful enough. The reward for beating Roxanne is 1500 yen and TM38.
When you leave the Gym, you'll see yet another person being terrorised by
Team Aqua. Follow the Team Aqua member east onto Route 116. After encountering a
few easy trainers, you'll come across Kanashida Tunnel. You'll find the Team Aqua member
hiding inside. After you defeat his only Pokémon,
a Poochyena, an old man will come to retrieve his stolen Pokémon. Now you can
head back to Rustboro City.
As soon as you enter the city, a man will approach you and take you to a
research lab. Here you'll meet an old man who will give you your very own
Pokémon Navigator! This will become a very handy tool later on in the game.
Dewford Town
Now you need to go south, all the way back through Route 104 and Petalburg Woods.
When you get back to the beach area, you'll see a house next to a dock.
Go inside and talk to the old man, who will offer you a ride on his boat. Accept
his offer, and within seconds, you'll find yourself entering Dewford Town.
Dewford Town is situated on a small island, but just north-west of the town,
you'll find a cave. Just inside the cave is a man who'll give you HM05 (Flash),
which you're going to need if you want to make your way through the cave. The
cave has one easy-to-follow path, and at the end you'll find
a guy that will give you TM47, Steel Wing. After making this little detour, it's
time to head back to Dewford Town and fight yet another Gym Leader.
The trainers and leader of the Dewford Gym use Fighting type Pokémon. When you
enter the Gym, the first thing you'll notice is that it's pitch black around
you. All you can do is wander around aimlessly until somebody challenges you.
However, every time you beat one of the trainers in the Gym, your field of
vision will increase. Among the Pokémon in this gym you'll find many Machop, and
quite a few Meditite.
The Dewford Gym Leader, Brawly, has two Pokémon: a Machop (level 17), and a
Makuhita (level 18). They both have moves which increase their Attack stats,
so its best to strike quickly. Machop is worth 319 experience points, and
defeating Makuhita will score you 339. Once you've defeated Brawly, he'll give
you 1800 yen and TM08.
